BoB the Biped(WIP)
« on: September 20, 2015, 01:08:33 PM »
This is and will be my ever evolving robot BoB. There have been a few revisions but all share the same basics. BoB is a 3D printed 4DOF walking(more like a waddle) robot based on minimal and simple to print parts, some 9G servos, a micro controller and optional parts like a sonar range sensor and LEDS.

V1:

BoB V1 was my first adventure into designing something to be 3D printed. i had no experience so it was bulky with 5mm thick walls. and simple because having never owned or used one i did not know the limitations of a 3D printer. i had servos on order, and no ping in hand. V1 was designed around drawings without having any physical part. with all that being said i could never have guessed in a million years how successful this design would be. with tens of thousands of views, many many builds, and multiple articles and features.  but there were improvements to be made.

V2

BoB v2 was again designed before i owned a printer. with some advice from others and after losing all of my solidworks files due to a harddrive failure. This design was a complete redo. his head was a little shorter meaning less room inside. but the walls were thinned to 3mm as well as the feet. the servo posts were removed from the feet as well. and over smoothing and rounding of the design. these files were never released and only printed once for me.

V3

V3 is my most recent released files and carries on the success of V1. V3 is based on the V1 files i was able to recover with just basic rounding of the edged and thinning of surfaces for a fast print as well as changing the mounting for the sonar sensor as V1 was designed to use a ping and not the cheaper sr-04 sensor

V4

so this is a story all about how BoBs life got twist turned upside down....ehem..sorry. so V4 was another complete overhaul that is not released. one of the repeating comments for BoB was the struggle of stuffing his head and getting it closed. so i changed things up a bit instead of a flat hip base and then a head you had to flip on to it. the base/head are combined into a giant bucket with a friction fit lid. i also added a protoboard holder and usb access using a nano on the protoboard. this version seems to cover all of the suggestions and comments bob has received but is not yet released. coming soon

..more coming soon ill continue as i find time

This is my favorite biped, and it inspired me to make my own tiny version. Great thanks for publishing it originally!

PS. The first three images seem to be gone?
