Ebot SL - a decent cheap line follower kit robot. They make good gifts and prizes if you are in the need for them.

It's extremely clean looking.

I am guessing no MCU, maybe just some kind of comparator circuit to guide it on its merry way?

I could definitely see appropriately geeky kids getting a BLAST out of these.

Yeah they are cheap toys, but they are good quality for the price. Here's the circuit that controls them:

Great thanks pointing out the schematic.  I have learned just about enough to follow it.  Very slick.  -Hal

The kids did a Full Contact Line Following Comp with these robots. It was a fun time, though the action gets a bit slow when you get down to the last 2.

These kits are under $5 on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252786280689

Stock units are slow and oscillate, I hacked 'em to speed things up.

Just built this similar-sized Bluetooth-controlled D2-6 robot. Line following is not as good as the $5 D2-1 after modding. It has two IR obstacle sensors. Bluetooth works from smartphone using tilt or pushbuttons. Just $12 from Banggood and easily hacked to change to your favorite processor. I'm adding a Picaxe 20M2.

Look closer. It's NOT Ultrafire, which is already a halfass brand. It's UitraFlrc, a bad knockoff of a halfass brand!

@erco

You should make a write up for your rewiring and share it online. I'm sure a lot of people would like to copy it.

@Impala: Good call, it will be written up in an upcoming SERVO magazine, see also my thread at http://forums.parallax.com/discussion/comment/1407107/#Comment_1407107

In reply to the guy having problems on the Parallax forum link you shared. Of the dozen that I bought for the kids, I had to replace 3 of the comparator chips after I made the original post on this forum. I could not get them to adjust out and follow the line properly. But ebay sells 5 packs for a couple dollars, so its a quick fix. They seemed to half work, but not be failed in a traditional sense. Its a weird problem that I attributed to typical "made in China" quality control.

Just started my D2-6 hack today and noticed the  kit is on sale for $11.19 at http://www.icstation.com/bluetooth-remote-control-smart-suite-tracking-kits-p-10171.html    for 6 more days if anyone "needs" a deal on one. Or two.
