Something's missing, but not required
« on: February 18, 2016, 02:26:12 AM »
You know, I've been thinking that one thing that I miss from the old site is all the pictures that we used to see when you first logon.
I'm not asking for any changes here. But I'm just saying that it was nice to see everyone's latest project right there.

Yep, I have the same feeling. A list of the last posted robots/projects woulde be really nice. But probably not so easy to integrate in to this site.

Would be so great if it could be implemented.

This is high up on my to do list. Things have been really busy the last few weeks somewhat unexpectedly and I have not had much time to work on site things. But know that I hear ya and I agree... We'll get there too, sooner or later. Since everyone seems to agree on wanting it that way maybe we can throw our donations at it and enlist some professional help... Something to consider.

I could save a copy of the home page and monkey around with it. Making a column with linked images from the gallery would be real easy. I could add it to the left side of the forum on the home page. But I've got no idea how I would know the paths to images not stored in the gallery. Because ideally you would want off site image storage to save cost.

Or it could be done in the same concept as the old chill zone, where a limited number of images could be saved in a designated gallery and those would be linked to the display column. Then an admin would choose what images to add or remove from that gallery to display them on the home page. This method would be the easiest to implement and maintain. But it would require a small amount of human interaction to keep it current.

Just my initial thoughts on the matter.

I agree. The great thing about the old site is that it was essentially still a forum, but with much more upfront content and functionality. It was just the right mix of community and entertainment. The addition of a 'hall of fame' chart of the best voted robots or something like that would be awesome here too I think. I loved flicking through that and seeing some of the amazing ones near the top spot.
Well, loving the work so far. Trying to think of any ways I can help. I have only very basic web coding skills so can't really assist there. But will get my thinking cap on to see if there is anything else I can deliver.
