How to attach images into your posts
« on: October 08, 2015, 05:28:48 PM »
Here is a little tutorial on how to attach images to your posts.

If you store your images on another site you will just use the BBCode tag for images.

Code: [Select]
[img]www.somewhere.com/image.jpg[/img]
You can assign width like this:
Code: [Select]
[img width=640]www.somewhere.com/image.jpg[/img]
height like this:
Code: [Select]
[img height=480]www.somewhere.com/image.jpg[/img]
or width and height like this:
Code: [Select]
[img 640x480]www.somewhere.com/image.jpg[/img]

Now let's say you want to attach an image from your computer or phone and have it stored on the site. First off start a new topic, and get your text ready. When you are ready to insert images look down below the message entry box.

*1.png (47.45 kB . 928x508 - viewed 379 times)

Click the little + symbol next to 'Attachments and other options'

Doing so will open up an area for you to attach your files as shown below.

If you are attaching more than one file you can click the (more attachments) text and more attachment boxes will appear.

The next step is to click on the 'Choose File' button. A popup window will allow you to browse your computer or device to the location of your attachment. Choose your picture and click 'Open'. Repeat this step for each image you want to attach. You can also attach other kinds of files as well, but remember that in the project boards of RobotRebels, the first image attached will be the image displayed on your topic in the topic index. So pick the picture you want to be your main project image and attach it first.

Finally it is time to insert the images into your post. In the message entry box click your mouse to place the cursor where you would like to insert your image. Then click (Insert Attachment n). This will insert the inline attachment BBCode into the desired location.

Finally you can control the way the inline attachment BBCode is inserted into the post using modifiers, just like we did with the image BBCode.

Here is an example of a recently inserted inline image BBcode:

*7.png (1.61 kB . 189x28 - viewed 325 times)

Here is a list of available modifiers:
Code: [Select]
id={attachment id} => ID number of the attachment to show inline (NOT attachment number!)
width={width} => Desired width of image to show.  Valid: positive integers.
height={height} => Desired height of image to show.  Valid: positive integers.
float={float} => Floats image to relation to everything else.  Valid: left, right, center
margin={pixels} => Margin around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
margin-left={pixels} => Left margin around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
margin-right={pixels} => Right margin around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
margin-top={pixels} => Top margin around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
margin-bottom={pixels} => Bottom margin around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
border-style={style} => Border style.  Valid: none, dotted, dashed, solid, double, groove, ridge, inset, outset
border-width={pixels} => Border width around inline attachment.  Valid: positive integers
border-color={color} => Border color.  Valid formats: plain text, #xxx, #xxxxxx, rbg(d,d,d)
scale={answer} => Override scaling of image.  Valid: true, false, yes, no
msg={msg ID} => Message ID number.  Valid: positive integers.

Here are some examples of their use:

One final note, due to a bug that has yet to be squished, if you click preview you will not see your images in the preview. Instead you will see this message [you do not have permission to view attachments]. Rest assured that your image will display upon posting.

Well that's about it. Feel free to use the sandbox area to play with image and attach BBCode and get used to them and if you have any questions please feel free to ask ask.
