Database dead-end: any ideas?
« on: October 04, 2015, 07:49:21 PM »
I've hit a wall with a work project and I'm hoping someone has some outside of the box ideas.
We have a site that used to run on Wordpress, then got hacked by stealrat (long story-our host only protects certain CMSs.)  I set up a temporary HTML version while we convert to ColdFusion with a "Request older stories" button.  Of course, the first person to request older stories is the son of our Institute's head, and of course, his stories aren't posted with his userID as author.  And he wants everything posted under his name.

He claims he was given bylines, but his name isn't showing up using any WHERE 'post_content" LIKE or where his user ID is author. I think I need to figure this one out by going outside of the box.  If I'm missing something obvious or if you have a clever metasolution that allows me not to trouble him further without having the answer, please point it out to me before I go back to him saying "Look, that doesn't seem to be the way it was entered..."

Thanks!

Hard to say without seeing an example of the data you're sifting through. Wonder if you have a couple known examples of his writing could pick out some common phrases based on writing style or subject matter, though of course depending how many other articles/authors are out there that could be needle in a haystack.

Or looking at it backwards, have you tried running a query for articles with no author, or WHERE (author NOT IN(list of known authors)? If hopefully most authors did use their name/id, it should at least give a workable sub-set. Sorry if my syntax is a bit off, I'm a SQL noob.

Thanks Smashley- that's the kind of thinking I'm looking for.  It's a pretty standard wp 3.x set of tables though.  The author Name/email is in a separate table from content and they're joined on user ID.  That could make for an interesting query though:
Code: [Select]
SELECT * WHERE content LIKE "%omigod,like, I know, right?%"
DROP * FROM* WHERE 1=1
SUDO RM /DEV/
