Current state of the MSD

The Motorized solder dispenser

They say necessity is the mother of invention. I can't say that this is an example of that, but it's 'extreme feature creep' at least.   ;D I have an RGB LED kit I hope to assemble that has a LOT of surface mount parts to solder. I plan to hand solder everything, one component value at a time, with some very small diameter solder. I was thinking about trying to hold the almost limp solder and not buggering everything up in the process. Then as I pondered that problem, I thought a little hand held solder dispenser must surely exist already, but a lot of googling tol...

Needed an additional clock for my 2nd fallout shelter, electronics are now operational, so thought it best to share current iteration.

What you see here is the High voltage / opto isolator /  Nixie driver board.
Current Shopping list :-
  • ESP32
  • Batch of New Old Stock Cold War Nixies
  • NE555 timer chip to develop the High Tension voltage via a flyback inductor.
  • DS3231 Real Time

Software defined radio (aka SDR), is a way of automating tuning into Audio/Digital radio receptions.

I am using a very simple (un-nervingly sensitive) USB dongle type RTL-SDR.COM

(cost inclusive antenna & mount was < £25).

This is able to tune through a huge spectrum of frequencies 0hz!! > 2.5Ghz

On a basic level it will tune into music radio station.....how ever where is the fun in that......

Also covers all the Radio Amateur bands , Dab radio and also Dab TV....etcetera

I am cu...

Hello Rebels!

I use CAD at work all day and recently a new drafter was talking about getting a custom macro pad called a streamdeck. The thing is basically a tablet with buttons on top so you can change the button icons to anything based on the application. While that looks cool and all, I encouraged him to try his hand at building his own macro pad with an arduino. As it turned out, he was not super interested in it, but at that point I already started working on one myself.  ;D

I found a 4x5 keypad on ebay that came with a plate, switches, and clear keycaps to make your own symbols. I used a pro micro, rainbow wire, small signal diodes & brass wire to make the mat...

This tool finds the relationship between servo pulse time and rotational angle. A simple brief that uncovered a number of tricky issues.

When constructing any robot that moves, work has to be done to define the movement. If using pulsed servos then this ‘definition’ will likely be in µS and quite specific to the actual motor. Should the motor fail and be replaced, or a second bot made, then the definition will no longer be accurate.

Calibrating each joint in degrees, rather than µS, will remove the need to redo the original work.

So an optical shaft encoder is coupled to the joint ‘axle’ to act as an electronic protractor. Then a rotary switch is used to manually find the mechanical limits of the joint plus ...
