[ Firmware ] Klipper - the cool firmware for 3d Printers
« on: March 30, 2017, 01:04:40 PM »
Hi!

As some of you might know I've been testing a new firmware: https://github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper

My experience so far has been great with it so I thought I should share and encourage you to try it out.

I first needed help from Kevin (the main and only developer) to enable the firmware to work on Core X/Y, so I have opened an issue on Github and asked. Next day there was a new branch for CoreX/Y :D

So what is so special about Klipper?

Klipper is made of two parts:

- AVR/ARM optimized firmware
- Python daemon that interprets GCODE and sends commands to the microcontroller in an optimized compressed format

Installation is straight forward, follow the instructions here: https://github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper/blob/master/docs/Installation.md

Configuration is even easier, it's just a file you edit and then issue a command to reload the python daemon no EEPROM, no burning the firmware on the ramps again :)

Here is an example you can start with: https://github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper/blob/master/config/example.cfg

This is all I have so far, managed a few prints and tested all systems, it runs very smoothly.

Note: This is experimental! Expect there be bugs, don't expect all the bling Marlin has, there is no support for LCD, SDCard etc as it is meant to be running from Octoprint

That being said have fun!

@Jinx or @Admin maybe we can have a firmware section under 3D Printers?

Just found this site while looking for some information on the mksbase gen l v1 board. while i do like Marlin for 3d printers, I feel it can sometimes be a little confusing when configuring a new printer. I think i'll give klipper a try. thank you!
