rewound PLA filament
« on: September 03, 2017, 06:11:22 AM »
I had a spool with some green 1.75mm PLA which was almost empty. Only the very inner coils were left on the spool. Problem was the plastic had gotten used to this circular shape, and had a tendency to break if pulled straight, like what happens when an extruder pulls it.

So I threw the spool in the kitchen oven, set it as 50c and had it bake for approx 15 minutes.

Now the filament had gotten just soft enough to be rewound on a new spool, if I just had had one.

good stuff on the cooking time... thinking keep an eye on the building sites for some off cut pipe "the yellow type " they gotta be about 9-12 inch in diameter could make a nice little drum. wondering how your extruder idler will cope with the kinks

there been any swelling of the filament diameter?
