ghetto compressor revisited
« on: June 15, 2017, 05:25:17 AM »
Some if you might remember my 2003 project where I made a air compressor ghetto style, using a refrigerator compressor and some plastic coke cans for pressure tank. A few pictures I took back then where it is installed under a hems I have in the workshop:

It worked pretty well, but I have had to reseal the tubes going to the bottles over and over again, leak are pretty common. Also the system isn't portable at all. So about a year ago I purchased a small portable air compressor.

Cheap but noisy as hell:

Also notice the cheap Chinese sound meter in the video, not really needed here, but still it makes a good visual sound indicator.

Today I hacked the two together to make a silent compressor for the workshop. I made the silent refrigerator compressor fill the red metal tank. To do so I had to add an extra connector the to red compressor, to get unregulated access to the tank.

Connecting the two I am no able to get come pressurized air for blowing dust without wearing ear-mufflers :)

Ahhhh Mogul - you make me nostalgic for the "old days" when I spent about half my life "improving" on cheap gear. I have to admit that overall I had little success and the usual story was that as soon as I improved some part some other part would fail secondary to the changed operating parameters I'd caused with my first improvement. I guess thats the genius of successful crap gear design.... every part of it is made to the same dismal standard.  :(
I also wish to nominate your cola-bottle pressure vessel system for the Robot Rebels Innovation of The Year Award.
Thanks for posting something thats not a 3D printer.
