Who we are
« on: April 22, 2016, 09:20:21 AM »
RobotRebels.org
We are a group of people who like to build robots on a hobby scale. Some of us are very productive, some not so much. Some have taken this much further than a hobby and others are just zipping by occasionally. See the What we do post for more on this.

We don't have many rules here. Basically the site is about sharing ideas, showing builds to inspire others.

Site was initially setup by the user names Yahmes, and shortly after we held a fundraiser which yielded enough money for a few years of operation.
Recently Yahmez asked for help for running RobotRebels.org, which is why we after a short discussion identified areas where we could help.

    1. Board of Defectors / steering committee
1.1. keep track of other groups and work
    1.2. formulate mission statement
    1.3. cashier

    2. Technical admin
    2.1. Maintain stable operation
2.2. Implement changes, styling and features
2.3. Maintain content tree and groups

    3. Content - the real deal
3.1. Design a newbe friendly "get into building" robot
3.2. Write a 3D printer primer (this is just an example)
    3.3. ... and much more ...

And initially we populated some of the areas with some "volunteers"

    1.1: ossipee, mogul
    1.2: mogul
    1.3. Yahmez

    2.1: tinhead, mogul
    2.2: danphobic_, ZeroMax, Smashley, KillerAngel
    2.3: KillerAngel

    3.2: jinx

Who's in charge
Basically everybody is in charge. Everybody is invited to have their say, to suggest changes and even implement them. Of course there are some very practical constraints we have to abide, otherwise the site will stop working pretty fast. One of those constraints is who have administrative right to the system under robotrebels.org.

I like to see our organisation as a meritocracy, "those who do decides what to do"

Name and Logo
As mentioned, we don't have many rules and we value our freedom quite a lot. We don't stay strict to one particular definition of the word robot, and we don't have right and wrong ways to build them. We don't like to be told what to do. We are a bit rebellious, some might even call us unruly. We don't see a rebel as the stereotyped American Civil War pro-slavery kinda guy, nor do we see us as pirates with wooden leg and eye patch.
The raised fist in the logo symbolizes, according to wikipedia, "a symbol of solidarity and support. It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance". It is not about American Black Power from the 70's
