Thanks, and good to know!

I think I recently saw somewhere someone complaining about how difficult is to bolt in the motors in the kossel design.
Somewhere along the thread other people were saying that ball-ended allen keys made quite the difference... I might fork up the money for one set of those...
...although the only ones I saw locally so far the difference to the regular allen set in price was 1:8 .. ouch... still, I'm tired of waiting times :p

Also, as you might or might have not seen yet, my kit arrived this morning :) 23 working days after reported shipping

I installed them afterwards. It's a pain in the ass to install the motors the first time, second time, third time.....  I had to cut down my allen key so that I could access the screws for the motors. It's just so damn tight in there... that was the hardest part of the build for me. But that being said, you do not have to remove anything to unbolt them unless you have the feet installed already.

Btw, did you install the dampers along the first time you assembled the printer or afterwards?

And if the latter, was it tricky to take out the motors and put them back in again (with dampers)?

Lot of disassembly? or is it as simple as just unscrewing the motors and not further disassembly required?

Yep, that's the one.

The foot's cup is designed to cradle even the largest of balls securely. If upon measurement you find your balls to be smaller than desired, you might simply attach either double sided sticky tape to the inside of the cup or one of those self adhesive velcro squares to keep your balls from dropping when you lift your printer.

Yes, that was the thingverse stuff I stumbled upon, and thought it might be from you. So I was right (not even sure why that is surprising to me :p)!

I've already downloaded the ball's feet, but since I still haven't measured my balls [freebie - too easy], not sure if I can use them without modification!

So, those dampeners you speak of are they these:

Waiting on the slow boat... I feel your pain.

Yep, designed the tennis ball feet and the other parts too. I think I may have posted them here on RR but you can find the files on thingiverse as well. https://www.thingiverse.com/JamesWhite/designs/page:1

It's a good printer, I have only had a handful of issues with it and they were all solved fairly easily. Tell you what though, I added astrosyn stepper dampers and those along with the tennis ball feet make it so quiet that I can't tell by the sound if it is printing or not. Definitely worth the money.

Oh nice! I haven't seen this post before, yet I've ordered this same printer kit about a month ago.

Alas, unlike yours mine is still in transit (21 work days and counting from the day it was reported as shipped),
hence I am suffering from a nasty case of parcel anxietitis :|

So you designed those tennis balls feet yourself? I thought it was your stuff I stumbled across!

Everything else / Drawdio

A few months back my oldest daughter said "Dad, where are the screwdrivers?" I pointed her to the garage... She came back an hour later with a kids toy keyboard all disassembled and pointed at the black blob on the circuitboard. "Dad, how do we get new notes loaded on this thing?" I had a good laugh and told her that I had no clue.  ;D She was bit by the bug though, she wanted to make a musical instrument, bad.

After some thinking, I remembered a little project which I just happened to have all the parts for. The drawdio! I pitched it to her but told her it would be her project, if she wanted to do it I would help her figure things out and provide the parts but she would need to assemble and solder everything up. She said "You're going to let me solder?" I nodded yes nonchalantly but in my head I had been waiting for this day for a long time.  :))

That night we rounded up nearly all the parts and she made a list of everything and checked off what we had found. The next night we dug in and started assembly. She picked up soldering very quickly and really the only part I provided much guidance on was part layout on the PCB and emphasizing the importance of triple checking her work as she went.

In all it took three nights of work, but she finished her project and we were both very happy with the result. I am quite proud of how quickly she picked up soldering and loved spending time teaching her something that I enjoy.

I also installed a pi3 with the official 7" touchscreen. Loaded it up with octoprint and I'm very happy with how it all works now. It's great to print without tying up the main PC and be able to check the printer from my phone. I added a camera as well to monitor the print. I found this awesome cabinet at Ikea, the printer fits perfectly inside and now my printer gets to live in the living room without fear of being exposed to the day to day rough and tumble of four kids and three cats.

Here are a couple things I have printed lately. My oldest son wanted 21 bearingless fidget spinners for his classmates, and a prosthetic hand to donate to e-nable. My mom's can opener broke so I made a quick repair.

Overall, I am very happy with this printer. Although I have to admit, it's tempting to convert the Ikea enclosure into a 3D printer it's self. The saga continues.

Well, a lot of time has passed and I never updated this thread with my upgrades. I did end up adding a bigger PSU (12V 25A) for the printer electronics as well as the heated bed. I don't really use the heated bed a lot because I only print in PLA but it is nice for prints that seem to want to lift from the bed. In order to mount the PSU under the printer I needed feet to raise it up and make room. I posted these before but I made designed feet that hold tennis balls and provide a nice way to lower the sounds coming from the printer. Also designed a power inlet and switch, a cosmetic faceplate for the LCD and covers for the tops of the towers and the lower parts too. Here are some pics.
